The short answer
An AI trainer delivers structured training to a group, usually a team or a cohort. An AI coach works with one person over time. Singapore has three kinds of AI trainer: national and institutional programmes, accredited private academies, and independent operator-trainers. Which one is right depends on whether you need a certificate, a technical skill, or a change in how your team actually works. If what you need is a subsidised, accredited certificate, groups one and two are the right answer and Gavin is not the right choice. That is not a hedge. Those organisations are built for that outcome, their fees are published, their syllabi are assessed, and the credential is recognised by employers and procurement teams. An independent trainer cannot give you any of that, and any independent trainer who implies otherwise is worth walking away from.
Once you know which group you are buying from, these seven questions separate providers inside it.
Ask who delivers the session on the day, not who is named in the proposal. Larger providers rotate associate trainers, and the person who sold the programme is often not the person teaching it.
A trainer who runs a business with these tools will teach the failure modes as well as the demos. Ask what they automated last month and what they decided not to automate.
Slides are not an output. A workflow your team can run on Monday, a documented process, or a decision framework is. Ask to see a redacted example from a previous cohort.
If every example is a generic marketing email, the session was not built for you. Examples drawn from your own processes are the difference between interest and adoption.
Decide this before you shortlist. A certificate is a procurement and career outcome, a capability is an operational one, and the providers that are best at each are rarely the same.
Ask what the trainer expects to be different a month on and who inside your organisation owns it. A trainer with no answer is selling attendance.
Ask for references you can contact, and for public reviews you can read yourself. Be clear about who is being reviewed: the individual trainer, or the academy or provider they teach through.

Many AI programmes in Singapore are subsidised through SkillsFuture and WSQ, delivered by the institutions and accredited academies named above. That funding is real, it is significant, and for a lot of teams it is the deciding factor.
Gavin's programmes are not SkillsFuture eligible. There is no subsidy and no WSQ accreditation attached to them.
The trade is straightforward. Subsidised programmes are designed around a certificate outcome, which means an assessed syllabus that has to stay the same for every cohort. Independent training is designed around a workflow outcome, which means the content changes to match your processes and there is nothing to award at the end. Both are legitimate. The question is only which outcome you are paying for.
Whichever route you take, confirm eligibility with the awarding body directly rather than taking any provider's word for it. Funding rules, course listings and claim windows change, and the provider is not the authority on them.

There is no single best AI trainer, because the right choice depends on the outcome you need. If you need a recognised credential, shortlist the national programmes and accredited academies. If you need a technical foundation, shortlist providers that teach data and engineering skills. If you need your team to work differently on Monday, shortlist independent operator-trainers and ask to see how a session is built around your own processes. Shortlist three, ask each for references from an organisation like yours, and pick on evidence rather than on marketing.

Yes, and that is the normal format for a trainer. The useful question is group size. Sessions where everyone works on their own real tasks need a small enough room for that to happen. Larger audiences are better served by a briefing or keynote format, which is a different product with a different purpose.
Not for practical, workflow-focused training, which is written for non-technical operators and assumes no coding. You do need a technical background for machine learning engineering, data science or model building programmes, which are taught by the institutions and accredited academies rather than by independent operator-trainers.
